The DRAGON WAGON
The Lockheed Martin ‘Dragon Wagon’ 901 is an amazing piece of history from the Viet Nam era — a newer version of one used during World War II.
Designed to accommodate the needs of jungle warfare, this unique piece is comprised of both pieces. Just a few had been produced when the Vietnam war ended.
This one is complete and ready for restoration. — a unique and rare piece of history that was expensive to produce especially given the set of rigorous feats it was designed to accomplish.
It was part of a collection initially compiled by truck historian and specialty vehicle aficionado Don Chew of Brighton, Colorado.
According to the seller this model is quite rare, and research turns up relatively little additional information. Apparently, Lockheed eventually sold the design to Oshkosh in the early 1980’s. Once past the angular cab with its excellent Lockheed badging, the next thing you’ll likely notice is the huge rubber–in this case 16.00/R20 XZL Michelins. Mounted on what look like combat rims, these wheels and tires are very similar to what are used on the current HEMTT’s.
This offroad beast boasts a 3208 Cat and a correspondingly large fuel tank. The big turbo-fed diesel is rated at 435 HP, which is funneled through a 5-speed, MT650 Allison transmission. Axle specs are a bit murkier, but it’s probably safe assuming that they’re burly and overbuilt.
